Today Room 11 had a visitor in from the Scottish Government to teach us all about how the Scottish Parliament works. As well as the history of Holyrood, we learned about devolution and which services are devolved or reserved. We got to use clickpads to vote and check our answers as we were listening – it was very exciting!
Everything we learned today will be useful when we do a topic on this later in the year!
In an hour and a half, we came across lots of vocabulary that we had never heard of before – instead of typing all our learning up on here, Mrs Robbie will just give you a list of some of the things you can ask us about if you want to hear us explain!
- Regional votes
- Constituency votes
- First past the post
We got to come up with our own political parties and try to win the class election!
Finally we got to debate a current issue – should circuses be banned from using wild animals? We had a presiding officer who called speakers to the floor!
