Room 7 STEM Afternoon – Cars!

Room 7 have been very lucky this week to take part in a STEM afternoon (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). They were challenged to come up with a design to help Polly (our class polar bear) to travel around Scotland safely.

They decided to make her a car and we considered important safety features we may wish to include such as seat belts, airbags and a seat. The children came up with their initial designs and were then partnered up.

On day 1 the children were to make the base of their car using a shoe box and some wooden dowel and wheels. All of the children had to carefully measure and saw (yes, saw) their own pieces of dowel to use as an axle for the wheels to go on.

David Wilson from The Oil & Gas Technology Centre came along for the afternoon to speak to us about his job and to help us with the designing and making of our cars. Thank you David!!

Please find the pictures below of our cars so far. We will be decorating them later this week and improving our designs as we go! Please check back later for the latest updates.
