Curriculum for Excellence aims to achieve a transformation in education in Scotland by providing a coherent, more flexible and enriched curriculum from 3 to 18.
The 3-18 curriculum aims to ensure that all children and young people in Scotland develop the attributes, knowledge and skills they will need to flourish in life, learning and work.
The knowledge, skills and attributes learners will develop will allow them to demonstrate four key capacities – to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
Pupils develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in many different ways in school. When a concept is first introduced it may be taught in a discreet way without reference to other curricular areas. As your child’s confidence grows they will be asked to apply their learning across different areas of the curriculum so that we can see that they fully understand. Learning across different curricular areas is known as Interdisciplinary Learning.

Assessment is for Learning (AifL) is central to the curriculum. AifL techniques support your child to understand what they are learning and know how to be successful. Children will routinely be involved in setting and reviewing personal learning targets and will be encouraged to discuss their learning with other pupils and staff in order to understand what they have to do to achieve the highest levels of attainment and achievement. Look out for opportunities to come into school to hear more about AifL.
As a staff we have been looking at making use of higher order questions to support the children to think more deeply. Higher order questions offer greater challenge to pupils and staff make use of Blooms Taxonomy to guide them.
Curriculum for Excellence meetings will take place regularly for parents and carers to be kept informed about changes and we like to respond to the needs of parents so if you would like information on a particular area please let us know.
