Each day we take the walking bus,

It’s clean and green and good for us.

Mum has packed a healthy lunch,

There’s lots of fruit and veg to munch.

We put our litter in the bin,

And recycle all our tin.

We do this to show we care,

For climate change and ozone layer.

This year we have all been working very hard trying to achieve Green Flag status.  We are always on the lookout for any good ideas or volunteers to help us in our quest to get this accolade.  As the school is moving to the new site soon, it would be a fantastic achievement if we could get the flag before the move takes place.

 Current news/events

·      Starlight charity event - we raised £280 thanks to pupils donating a Christmas message to their friends.  We also potentially saved sending 198,000 cards in the process.

·      The P5s have been busy recycling.  They have boxes outside their classrooms for anyone who would like to recycle ink cartridges and mobile pones.  They have also taken on the very important role of the "Pollution Police" who will help keep our school and playground litter free zone.  Congratulations to Nathan Sharp, Room 15, who designed the winning badge.

·      Recycling for CHAS - a reminder from Mrs Renton to put your used printer cartridges into the blue boxes outside the ICT room and Mr Carnegie's room.  The cartridges are being recycled to raise money for CHAS (Children's Hospice Association Scotland).  There are some rules about the types of cartridges we can accept - to find out more look at the website www.recyclingappeal.com.  The appeal will also accept mobile phone handsets.  Maybe mums and dads can donate cartridges from their place of work to help boost our target!

·      Congratulations to Rachael Watson, Room 13, who won an environmental design competition with her creation "Recyclasaurus Rex".  Have a look at her brilliant design on the school's Eco noticeboard.

·      Dragon's Den - we are about to host out very own version of the TV programme.  The whole school competition will involve pupils designing and making their very own draught excluders.  Each class will submit an entry and attempt to persuade a panel of judges that their design is the best one!  The winning entry will then be mass-produced and sold at our school picnic in May, with the proceeds going to the Eco fund.  We are hoping to involve some local companies in the process of this enterprise initiative.
